Yealink CP925/965/935W – Rebooting, Updating Firmware/configuration, Factory Reset

If your phone is malfunctioning or requires updates you or your phone system administrator may want to perform one of the following:

Rebooting: This will bring the phone back to its last configured state.

Updating configuration: Settings or configuration changes made by Telebroad or your system administrator are applied to the phone when you trigger a configuration update. Depending on the updated settings this may or may not require you to reboot your phone.

Upgrading the firmware: Firmware is the software that loads when the phone is started and controls its functionality. Upgrading it to a newer version, when one is released, may resolve or improve phone performance issues.

Factory reset: This erases the current configuration and applies the original factory configuration the phone was shipped with. An admin password is required, but a certain configuration setting makes it possible to bypass this and reset without a password.

Rebooting

Rebooting your phone is usually a safe and easy method to resolve functionality issues, but consider consulting your phone system administrator first to make sure the issues are not related to network or other external causes.

For the CP935 you can reboot the phone itself or the base station it is registered with. Rebooting the base station will cause any active or holding calls to be disconnected so you should first alert any users connected to the base station. An easy way to do so is with the handset intercom feature of the CP935W or with Telebroad's group intercom paging.

To perform a reboot:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • On the CP925/965 tap Basic (Settings>Basic on the CP965) and select Reboot>Reboot.

  • On the CP935W select Advanced and enter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000.)

To reboot the phone select Reboot>Handset Reboot and tap Reboot.

To reboot the base station select Reboot>Base Reboot, enter the base station PIN again, and tap Reboot.

Updating Configuration

Changes in the phone system or network of your office may cause issues with your phone. To restore compatibility or to apply new settings, your system administrator may ask you to update the phone's configuration after he has prepared the relevant configuration file.

When you trigger the configuration update the new configuration file is downloaded from a provisioning server to the phone's memory and the update is completed automatically.

To update the phone's configuration:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • On the CP925/965 tap Basic (Settings>Basic on the CP965) and select Update Configuration>Auto Provision.

  • On the CP935W select Advancedenter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000), and select Auto Provision.

  • Please verify with your system administrator that the provisioning server details are correct and up to date before proceeding!

If not already provided, enter the User Name and Password for the provisioning server.
  • Confirm the update process to continue.

Upgrading the Firmware

Firmware files can be downloaded from the Yealink support portal. See the relevant pages for CP925, CP965, and CP935W

The file should be stored on a computer, mobile device, or local network location that can be accessed by the web interface.

The CP935W firmware can also be upgraded from the base station as explained here. This is more useful if you want to update several phones/handsets that are registered to the base station at once (it is possible to select several different firmware files this way.)

Firmware Upgrade Considerations

Before upgrading to the latest firmware you should read the related firmware notes and possibly consult with Yealink's support to ensure there are no compatibility issues or other potential conflicts. If such issues or conflicts do happen after an upgrade you may need to downgrade to a previous firmware version or perform a factory reset.

Checking the Current Firmware Version

You can check the current firmware version installed on the phone to see if an upgrade is indeed required.

To check the firmware version from the phone:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Status>General (on the CP965 tap Settings first.)

To check the firmware version via the web user interface:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

  • The firmware version is the first item found under the Status tab (the first page of the web user interface.)

Upgrading the Firmware

When upgrading the firmware it is important that you do not close or refresh the browser running the web user interface. Also do not close or change the network connection on the device running the web user interface and do not power off the phone until the process is completed.

To upgrade the firmware via the web user interface:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

  • Select the Settings tab on the top and select Upgrade from the side menu.

  • Click Browse to locate the firmware file you downloaded from Yealink on your local system.

  • Click Upgrade to upgrade the firmware.

  • Click OK to confirm the process when prompted.

  • The phone will reboot once the upgrade is finished.

Factory Reset Considerations

Factory reset is only recommended after you have tried all other troubleshooting suggestions since it will delete all your personal configuration settings and reset them to the factory defaults.

It is advisable you contact us  (if you have an account with us) or your phone system administrator before attempting a factory reset to see if the issues with your phone may be resolved without it and to ensure your phone can be properly provisioned and configured if a reset is indeed required.

The factory reset process may take a few minutes. Do not power off the phone until it has started up successfully!

CP925/965 Factory Reset

You can do a factory reset from the phone's settings, from the web user interface, or by long-tapping the left Mute button. The latter method can be configured to allow you to reset without having to provide an admin password.

To perform a factory reset from the phone's settings:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Tap Advanced (Settings>Advanced on the CP965) and enter the current admin password (default password is "admin".)

  • Select Reset Config>Reset to Factory Settings.

  • Confirm that you want to perform a factory reset to continue the process.

To perform a factory reset from the web user interface:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

  • Select the Settings tab on the top and select Upgrade from the side menu.

  • Click Reset to Factory in the Reset to Factory field.

  • Click OK to confirm when the web user interface prompts “Do you want to reset to factory?”.

The process may take a few minutes. Do not power off until the phone starts up successfully.

To perform a factory reset with the left Mute key:

If enabled on your phone, you can perform a factory reset by holding the left Mute key for about 15-20 seconds to perform a factory reset (not the mute soft key but the actual physical button on the phone). For reference see these keys layout articles for CP925CP965, or CP935W.

If prompted for a password enter the default password (admin) or the current admin password of the phone.

If you forgot or don't know the admin password you can contact us or your phone system administrator to see if we or he have a record of the current admin password.

It is also possible to have the phone's settings changed so it does not require a password when you hold the mute key (the specific configuration file setting is “features.factory_pwd_enable=0” ). After the setting is changed your phone system administrator will ask you to Update your phone's configuration. You should now be able to reset your phone without being prompted for a password. After the reset, the default password (admin) should work.

CP935 Factory Reset

On the CP935W you can reset either the phone itself (referred to as handset) or the base station it is registered with.

Resetting the base station will temporarily prevent all handsets/phones connected to it from placing or receiving calls and will cause any active or holding calls to be disconnected. You should therefore alert all users connected to the base station before proceeding. An easy way to do so is with the handset intercom feature of the CP935W or with Telebroad's group intercom paging.

Factory Reset  Base Station

You can reset the base station from either the base station itself, the web user interface, or from a phone/handset that is registered with it.

Resetting from the base station will clear all settings while resetting from a phone/handset will keep the base station PIN and phone/handset registration.

To reset the base station from the base station:

  • Disconnect the power adapter.

  • Long press the paging key and reconnect the power adapter.

  • When the base station finishes resetting, the power indicator LED, network status LED and registration LED illuminate in sequence.

  •  System PIN and all individual settings are reset to factory defaults. Handset registrations will also be cleared after the base station resets.

You can also reset the base station via the web user interface at the path: Settings>Upgrade (see full steps here). When doing so, make sure you get the IP address of the base station (and not the phone) as explained here.

To reset the base station from the phone:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Advanced and enter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000.)

  • Select Reset, tap Base Reset, and enter the base station PIN again.

  • Select Reset to factory and confirm the action.

  • The resetting process may take a few minutes. Do not power off until the base station starts up successfully.

Factory Reset Phone/handset

Resetting the phone/handset will not affect the settings for the directory, call history, voicemail, and the handset registration to the base station. Other customized settings will be reset to factory settings.

To reset the handset via the handset:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Advanced and enter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000.)

  • Select Reset>Handset Reset and confirm the action.
