Yealink W73P/76P/78P – Restarting, Updating Firmware/configuration, Factory Reset

If your W56H/W73H/78H handset or the base station it is registered with are malfunctioning or require updates you or your phone system administrator may want to do one of the following:

Restarting: This will bring the base station back to its last configured state. You can also restart a handset by turning it off and on.

Updating configuration: Settings or configuration changes made by Telebroad or your system administrator are applied to the handset when you trigger a configuration update. Depending on the updated settings this may or may not require you to reboot your phone.

Updating firmware: Firmware is the software that loads when the phone and base station are started and controls its functionality. Updating it to a newer version, when one is released, may resolve or improve phone performance issues.

Factory reset: This erases the current configuration and applies the original configuration the phone was shipped with from the factory. You can reset the base station or each individual handset.

Restarting the Handset or Base Station

Handset Restarting

If you need to restart a handset simply long-press the on-hook/power key ( ) while on the idle screen to turn it off. (If you are not on the idle screen, long-pressing the key will first take you back to the idle screen.)

Press the key again or place the handset in the charging cradle to turn the handset back on and restart it.

Base Station Restarting

Restarting the base station is usually a safe and easy method to resolve functionality issues. However, you may want to consult your phone system administrator first to make sure the issues are not related to network problems or other external causes.

Also, since restarting the base station will cause any active or holding calls to be disconnected, you should alert any users connected to the base station before performing the restart. An easy way to do so is with the handset DECT intercom feature, selecting the All Handsets option.

To restart the base station via the handset:

  • Press    to enter the main menu and select the Settings option (  on the 73H/78H or    on the 56H).

  • Select System Settings>Base Restart.

  • Enter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000) and press the Done soft key.

The registration LED and network status LED go out simultaneously. When the base station restarts successfully the LED indicators will illuminate solid green again.

You can also restart the base station using the web user interface at the path Settings>Upgrade. (Note the difference between finding the IP address for W70B single-cell and W80B/W90B multi-cell configurations.)

Updating Configuration

Changes in the phone system or office network may cause issues with your handset. To restore compatibility or to apply new settings, your system administrator may ask you to update the handset's configuration after he has prepared the relevant configuration file. The process will be completed automatically using an auto-provisioning configuration.

To update the phone's configuration:

  • Press    to enter the main menu and select the Settings option (  on the 73H/78H or    on the 56H).

  • Select System Settings>Auto Provision.

  • Please verify with your system administrator that the provisioning server details are correct and up to date before proceeding!

  • Enter the current base station PIN (the default PIN is 0000).

  • If not already provided, enter the User Name and Password for the provisioning server and select OK.

  • Confirm the update process to continue.

Firmware Upgrade

You can upgrade the firmware on either the base station or the handset.

Firmware files can be found and downloaded from the Yealink support portal.
See the relevant pages for
W73H, W56H, and W78H handsets. All of these pages also have the firmware file for the W70B (single-cell) base station, which can also be found on its dedicated page.

The file should be stored on a computer, mobile device, or local network location that can be accessed by the web interface.

If you are using a multi-cell base station (Yealink W80 or W90) please refer to this article for instructions on how to perform a firmware upgrade.

Firmware Upgrade Considerations

Before upgrading to the latest firmware you should read the related firmware notes (if available) and possibly consult with Yealink's support to ensure there are no compatibility issues or other potential conflicts. If such issues or conflicts do happen after an upgrade you may need to downgrade to a previous firmware version or perform a factory reset.

Checking the Current Firmware Version

You can check the current firmware installed on the base station or a handset to see if an update is indeed required.

To check firmware from a handset:

  • Press    to enter the main menu  and select the Settings option (  on the 73H/78H or    on the 56H).

  • Select Status>Base for the base station's details or Status>Handset for the handset's details.

On the 78H, select Status>DM for the base station's details.

  • The screen displays the status of the base station or handset including the firmware version and additional network information (Use the arrow keys to scroll through the list and view the additional details.)

To check the firmware version from the web user interface:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

If you are using the W80/W90 multi-cell base station, refer to this article instead!

  • The firmware version is the first item found under the Status tab (the first page of the web user interface).

Performing the Firmware Upgrade

Once you have downloaded the relevant firmware files from the Yealink support portal, the upgrade can be easily done using the web user interface.

To upgrade the base station or handset firmware:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

If you are using the W80/W90 multi-cell base station, refer to this article instead!

  • Select Settings>Upgrade.

  • If upgrading the base station firmware:

    • Click Browse next to the Select and Upgrade Firmware field to locate the required firmware file on your local system.

    • Click Upgrade next to the same field.

Do not power off the handset or the base station during the upgrade.

Once the base station firmware has been successfully upgraded it will reboot automatically. The handset will perform an auto registration to the base station.

Factory Reset

You can factory reset either the base station or each individual handset/phone registered to it.

Factory reset is only recommended after you have tried all other troubleshooting suggestions since it will delete all your personal configuration settings and reset them to the factory defaults.

It is advisable you contact us  (if you have an account with us) or your phone system administrator before attempting a factory reset to see if the issues with your phone may be resolved without it and to ensure your phone can be properly provisioned and configured if a reset is indeed required.

The factory reset process may take a few minutes. Do not power off the phone until it has started up successfully!

Factory Reset  Base

You can reset the base station from either the base station or a handset.

Resetting from the base station will clear all settings while resetting from a handset will keep the base station PIN and handset registration.

To reset the base station from the base station:

  • On the W70B, first unplug the power or network cable (if using PoE) from the back of the unit.

Long-press the paging key while reconnecting the power/network cable and wait until the LEDs start flashing slowly.

  • The process may take a few minutes. Do not power off the unit until it starts up successfully.

The power indicator and network status LED on the base station will flash slowly in a sequence. Once the base station starts up successfully these LEDs will illuminate in solid green.

To reset the base station from the handset:

  • Press    to enter the main menu and select the Settings option (  on the 73H/78H or    on the 56H).

You can also reset the base station via the web user interface at the path Settings>Upgrade by clicking Reset to factory.

Factory Reset Handset
