Using Your Phone as an Intercom

Intercom is a useful feature in an office environment to quickly connect with a specific user or an operator. The recipient's phone will answer the call automatically if the recipient is not already on another call.

Intercom functionality is also possible by using Telebroad's intercom dial code.

Configuring a Phone to Make Intercom Calls

Before you can place an intercom call on a phone you need to configure a DSS line key to act as a designated intercom key!

To configure an intercom key on a phone:

  • Press Menu>Features>DSS Keys.

  • Select the desired DSS key.

  • Press    or   , or the Switch soft key to select Intercom from the Type field.

  • Select the desired line to use in the intercom call from the Account ID field.

  • (Optional.) Enter the string that will appear on the LCD screen in the Label field.

  • Enter the extension or phone number or the target phone in the Value field.

  • Press the Save soft key to accept the change or the Back soft key to cancel.
To place an intercom call:

  • Press the intercom key (defined in the step above) when the phone is idle.

  • The target destination phone plays a warning tone and automatically answers the call in speakerphone mode.

  • To end the intercom call, press the intercom key again or the EndCall soft key.
Configuring the Target Phone

By default, the target phone automatically plays a warning tone when when receiving an intercom call. This feature can be disabled if you require so.

Two other features can be enabled or disabled. Intercom Mute (disabled by default) - the feature mutes the recipient phone's microphone when it automatically accepts an intercom call. Intercom Barge (disabled by default) - the feature places an active call on hold on the recipient phone when an intercom call is automatically accepted. If the feature is disabled, an intercom call will be handled like a waiting call.

To configure intercom acceptance and features on the target phone:

  • Press Menu>Features>Intercom.

  • Press    or   , or the Switch soft key to select Enabled from the Accept Intercom field.

If Accept Intercom is enabled, the phone will automatically answer an incoming intercom call. If Accept Intercom is disabled, the phone will reject incoming intercom calls and send a busy message to the caller. Accept Intercom is enabled by default.

  • Press    or    to scroll to the Intercom Mute, Intercom Tone, and Intercom Barge fields and press    or   , or the Switch soft key to enable or disable them as required.

  • Press the Save soft key to accept the change or the Back soft key to cancel.
