Yealink CP960 (Discontinued) – Connecting a Mobile Phone/Device via Bluetooth

For CP960 replacements please refer to the user guides for the Yealink CP925/965.

Bluetooth Usage on the CP960

Bluetooth provides a wireless connection within a range of about 32 feet. The best performance is in the range of 3 to 6 feet.

After pairing and connecting a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone (or device) you can make and receive mobile calls on the CP960, use it as a speaker to play music from the mobile phone, and create a hybrid UC conference with merged calls from the mobile phone and a PC.

The following instructions are for the phone user interface, but you can also configure Bluetooth settings via the web user interface at the path Features>Bluetooth.

Activating/Deactivating Bluetooth Mode

Activating Bluetooth gives you access to a list of available nearby Bluetooth devices as well as a list of devices your phone is already paired with.

To activate Bluetooth:

  • Do one of the following:

    • Tap  .

    • Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the Quick Settings menu and hold Bluetooth.

    • Tap Settings from the Home screen and tap Bluetooth from the Basic block.

  • Toggle on the Bluetooth.

  • The phone automatically scans for available Bluetooth devices in range and displays an Available devices list with device types (phones, headphones, input devices, etc.) and names.

If you have paired devices before, they will appear on the same screen under a Paired devices list.

  • The status bar displays the active Bluetooth icon ().

Repeat the same steps but switch the Bluetooth toggle to the off position to deactivate Bluetooth. The Bluetooth icon will disappear from the status bar. The current Bluetooth device that is connected to your phone will disconnect but will remain paired and available to use once you reactivate Bluetooth.

Pairing, Switching, and Renaming a Bluetooth Mobile Phone

You can pair many mobile phones and devices with the CP960 but only one device can be connected to the CP960 at any given time.

After a connection, the CP960 will automatically find an available line key and assign it as a Mobile Account. The Mobile Account key’s default label is “My Mobile”. If there is no available line key, you may assign it manually.

After pairing a device you can change its name or unpair it.

If you have paired several mobile devices you can switch the active connection between them.

To pair and connect a Mobile Phone with the CP960:

  • Activate the Bluetooth mode on the CP960 (see above).

  • Activate the Bluetooth mode on the mobile phone and also make sure it is discoverable (can be seen by other Bluetooth devices.) Otherwise, even if you enable Bluetooth on the mobile phone it may not be seen by the CP960.

  • If there no mobile phone is found, tap   to scan for the mobile phones.

  • Tap the mobile phone you want to pair with in the Bluetooth devices list.

  • Tap Pair  when the CP960 prompts with a Bluetooth connection request with a pairing code (make sure the code is identical to the one shown on the mobile phone.)

  • If the connection is successful, a “Connected” label appears under the mobile phone name.

A successful connection is also indicated by the connected Bluetooth icon ( ) in the status bar and a Mobile Account key that automatically is assigned to the mobile device (line 1 in the following example.)

To switch between paired mobile devices:

  • Make sure the device you want to switch to has its Bluetooth mode enabled and is discoverable.

  • Activate the Bluetooth mode on the CP960 (see above).

  • Tap the Bluetooth device you want to switch the active connection to in the Paired devices list.

  • Select OK when prompted to approve connecting the selected device.

You can also just highlight the currently paired device and select Disconnect. This will keep it paired, but you will have to switch to it to reestablish the connection.

To rename or unpair a device:

  • Tap   next to the mobile phone name.

  • If you wish to change the name of the phone, enter the desired device name in the Rename field.

Tap    to accept the change or     to cancel.

The new name of the mobile phone will display in the Paired Devices list on the CP95. But the name of the mobile phone that is displayed in the list of available devices (if you unpair the mobile phone) remains unchanged.

  • To unpair the phone tap Unpair.

The mobile phone disappears from the Paired devices list. It will now show in the Available devices list, where you can tap it if you wish to pair the CP960 to it again.

Enabling Phone-Audio/Media-Audio

The phone-audio feature on the CP960 allows you to make and receive mobile calls. The CP960 acts as a speaker and microphone for your connected mobile phone calls. Calling is still made through your mobile phone, but the audio is routed to the CP960 and the call is also controlled by it.

Note that controlling calls works for cellular calls, but may or may not work for calls made or received with any VoIP communication apps (such as Skype, Google Voice, a softphone app, or Telebroad's own mobile Teleconsole app.) Speaker and microphone functionality will work for any type of call.

When you enable the media-audio feature, the CP960 acts as a speaker for your connected mobile phone (or a PC connected via a micro-USB cable) to play music or other audio media.

To enable phone-audio or the media-audio:

  • After you have paired and connected a mobile phone, tap   next to its name.

  • Toggle on Phone audio to enable Phone audio.

  • Toggle on Medio audio to enable Phone audio.

  • Tap    to accept the change or     to cancel.

Editing Device Name and Enabling Discovering

In order for other Bluetooth devices to scan and find your CP960 phone you need to make it discoverable.

By default the device name of your CP960 will appear to other devices as Yealink-CP960. You can edit this name to make it easier to recognize the phone.

To make the CP960 discoverable:

  • Activate the Bluetooth mode.

  • Tap Edit My Device Information.

The current device name of the phone will be displayed. If you wish to edit it, enter the new name in the Device Name field.

  • Toggle on Open Discover to make the CP960 discoverable.

  • The phone will be visible to all Bluetooth devices nearby.

  • Tap    to accept the change or     to cancel.

Placing a Mobile Call over Bluetooth

When placing a call with a paired mobile, both the CP960 and the mobile phone screen show the connected call. You can use the CP960 as a speaker and a microphone for the call

You can use the CP960 to place a mobile call and a VoIP call with your Telebroad account simultaneously. The two types of calls will not affect each other.

Before placing mobile calls make sure the phone-audio feature is enabled on the CP960 (see above).

To place a mobile call over Bluetooth from the CP960:

  •  Tap   or tap the My Mobile line key (the line key is assigned when you pair the mobile phone. See above.)

  • Enter the desired number.

  • Tap Send.

  • Tap the connected mobile phone in the pop-up dialog box.

To place a mobile call over Bluetooth from the mobile phone:

  • Place a call on the mobile phone.

  • The outgoing call information appears on both the CP960 and mobile phone screens.

  • On the mobile phone tap the Bluetooth audio source option and select:

    • CP960 or Bluetooth to route the call's audio to the CP960.

    • Speaker or Handset earpiece to keep the call's audio on the mobile phone.

  • Note that the audio source option's appearance and functionality may vary slightly depending on your phone's operating system version and configuration – on iOS the options for keeping the audio on the phone are iPhone and Speaker.
