If your phone is malfunctioning or require updates you or your phone system administrator may want to perform one of the following:
Rebooting/Restarting: This will bring the phone back to its last configured state. It is also required sometimes to apply changes to Telebroad settings.
Upgrading the software: This is usually done to upgrade the phone with new features developed by Konftel, but it can also resolves performance issues if the phone's software is outdated.
Factory reset: This erases the current configuration and applies the original configuration the phone was shipped with from the factory. It is the only choice if you have forgotten the Admin PIN code.
Rebooting/Restarting
The Konftel 300Wx has both restart and reboot options. A restart just resets and reloads the phone application software in memory and takes less than 30 seconds. A reboot turns the phone off and on and completely reloads all system software.
To restarting the phone do one of the following:
- Press and select SETTINGS>RESTART.
- Access the phone via the web user interface as explained here.
Click the Settings tab and select the System tab.
Click the Restart button.
To reboot the phone do one of the following:
- Press and select SETTINGS>REBOOT.
- Access the phone via the web user interface as explained here.
Click the Settings tab and select the System tab.
Click the Reboot button.
If neither method works you can disconnect and reconnect the power supply cable (this would be the network cable if the phone uses Power over Ethernet.)
Upgrading the Software
You can upgrade the software on the 300Wx with any of these three methods:
- Konftel Upgrade Utility method: This is the recommended method. The Upgrade Utility is a software that needs to be installed on a Windows PC. After installation you need to restart the phone in upgrade mode and connect it to the PC with a USB cable.
- From a web interface: The web interface allows you to connect to the phone and perform various modifications and functions more conveniently compared to the phone's user interface.
- From an SD Memory Card: This method can be used on a phone that is not yet connected to a network.
Checking the Current Software Version
Before proceeding with an upgrade, you can check the current software version installed on the phone to see if an upgrade is indeed required.
To check the current software version do one of the following:
- Press the and select STATUS.
- Log into the web interface and select Settings>Provisioning.
Upgrading with the Konftel Upgrade Utility
This method works when a phone can be connected to a Windows PC with a USB cable.
- You first have to install the Konftel Upgrade Utility on the computer:
- Visit https://www.konftel.com/en/support and click SOFTWARE UPDATE or just scroll to the bottom of the page.
- The Konftel Upgrade Utility is the first item in the list of downloadable files.
- Click to download the utility, run it and follow the instructions given by the installation program.
- Visit https://www.konftel.com/en/support and click SOFTWARE UPDATE or just scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Connect the Konftel 300Wx to the PC using the USB cable.
- Restart the phone in upgrade mode:
- Press and select SETTINGS>UPGRADE MODE.
Confirm that you want to restart in upgrade mode by pressing or cancel the restart procedure by pressing .
You can also restart the unit in upgrade mode by holding down while the phone is being started.
- Press and select SETTINGS>UPGRADE MODE.
- Start the Konftel Upgrade Utility software on your computer from the Windows Start menu.
- You can do an automatic upgrade or a manual one.
- If you select Automatic Upgrade the Konftel Upgrade utility will automatically download and install the latest software version from Konftel’s website.
- Manual upgrade is useful if you have restricted Internet access or if the phone is not yet provisioned and connected to the Internet. The latest software version file is available on the same page as the Konftel Upgrade Utility. After you download and run it, select Manual Upgrade and follow the on screen instructions.
- If you select Automatic Upgrade the Konftel Upgrade utility will automatically download and install the latest software version from Konftel’s website.
Upgrading via SD Memory Card
Please note that an update via SD card will reset your conference phone to factory settings!
To upgrade from an SD card:
- Visit https://www.konftel.com/en/support and click SOFTWARE UPDATE or just scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Find the item "Konftel 300Wx (Update via SD card)" and click the link next to it.
- Copy the downloaded file to an SD card making sure to place it in the root directory.
- Restart the phone in upgrade mode:
- Press and select SETTINGS>UPGRADE MODE.
Confirm that you want to restart in upgrade mode by pressing or cancel the restart procedure by pressing .
You can also restart the unit in upgrade mode by holding down while the phone is being started.
- Press and select SETTINGS>UPGRADE MODE.
- Press the HOLD button (in upgrade mode) to start the upgrade from the SD card.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Upgrading via the Web Interface
- Access the web user interface as explained here.
- Navigate to Settings>Provisioning and click the Check Now button.
- Compare the latest software version with the current version (shown on the same page).
- If you choose to upgrade, select a version from the list and click on the Upgrade button.
- Downloading and upgrading can take several minutes. Do not interrupt the upgrade and do not disconnect the Konftel 300Wx during the process. Interrupting the upgrade may render the phone inoperable!
- You can also install a Konftel firmware file that you downloaded to your PC by clicking Browse.
The firmware file can be found at https://www.konftel.com/en/support. Click SOFTWARE UPDATE or just scrolling to the bottom of the page.
Factory Reset
You will need to perform factory reset If you have forgotten the Admin PIN code. Otherwise this is only recommended after you have tried all other troubleshooting suggestions since the operation will delete all phone configurations, all contacts in the phone book, and all groups saved in the conference guide.
It is advisable you contact us (if you have an account with us) or your phone system administrator before attempting a factory reset to see if the issues with your phone may be resolved without it and to ensure your phone can be properly provisioned and configured if a reset is indeed required.
You can can create a backup of the contacts and groups by exporting them from the web interface and importing them back into the phone after the factory reset.
You can perform a factory reset from the phone menu, from the web interface, or if phone is not responsive while the phone is starting.
To perform a factory reset from the phone menu:
- Press and select SETTINGS > FACTORY RESET.
- Confirm that you really want to reset the settings by pressing or cancel the resetting procedure by pressing .
To perform a factory reset from the web interface:
- Access the phone via the web user interface as explained here.
- Click the Settings tab and select the System tab.
- Click the Reset button and confirm the reset procedure when prompted.
To perform a factory reset while the phone is starting:
- Disconnect the power supply cable (this would be the network cable if the phone uses Power over Ethernet.)
- Press and hold while you connect the cable again.
- Keep holding the button pressed until the SYSTEM RECOVERY menu appears.
- Press 1 to select Reset configuration and confirm with .
- You can press any button other than 1, 2, or 3 to start the phone without resetting!
