Yealink CP935W – DECT Registration, Renaming, and Locating the Phone

CP935W DECT Usage

To use the DECT connectivity of the CP935W it has to be registered with a Yealink DECT base station.

The CP935W can only be registered with one standard (single-cell) W70B base station at a time (unlike the Yealink 73H/56H/78H handsets that can be registered with four different base stations). One W70B base station can handle up to ten DECT phones and handsets.

DECT repeaters (up to six) can be used to extend the reception range of the W70B. For even greater coverage and freedom of movement, you can use the multi-cell Yealink W80B/W90B base stations that can manage a phone/handset across up to 60 base stations (or even up to 600 in special VIM configuration).

If you purchased the CP935W-base bundle (phone and a base station) the phone should have already been registered with the included W70B base station. If bought separately or for registering to other base stations, a manual registration is required.

Note that in some of the menu options, due to firmware compatibilities with other DECT devices, the phone is referred to as a "handset".

Switching from Wi-Fi to DECT

The CP935W can connect to your local network using either DECT or Wi-Fi. The default mode when the CP935 is powered on for the first time or resets to factory setting is DECT, but before trying to register the phone to a base station you should make sure it has not been switched to Wi-Fi.

To check the connectivity mode and switch to DECT:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Basic>Phone Mode.

  • Select the DECT.

  •  tap  .

Repeat the same steps and select DECT to switch back.

Enabling Base Station Registration Mode

To register your CP935W phone, your base station needs to be set to registration mode.

To enable registration mode on a base station:

  • If you are registering to a W70B single-cell base station long press the   button on the base station until the registration LED flashes. If the base station does not identify a handset within 90 seconds, the registration mode is switched off automatically.

  • If you are registering to a Yealink W80 or W90 multi-cell system the registration mode on the base station needs to be enabled with a web user interface. Refer to this article for more details.

Once the registration mode is enabled long press the device key (  on the W80 or    on the W90) until the DECT LED indicator flashes.

Phone Registration

Initial Registration (Easy and Normal Methods)

After you enable the registration mode on the base station you can register your handset with it.

If the handset has not yet been registered with any base station, you do an initial registration using the following easy or normal methods. Otherwise, you can register it to a different base station (see next) or switch between the ones you already registered to (see below).

To do initial registration of the CP935W do one of the following:

  • Easy Registration  the handset will search and automatically register with a base station that is in registration mode.

For easy registration tap Reg on the phone to register quickly.

The registration process will be completed automatically. If you are working with a multi-cell system (Yealink W80 or W90) the handset will register to the base station with the strongest signal in range.

  • Normal Registration allows you to manually select a specific base station.

For normal registration access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

Select Basic>Registeration. A list of available base units (that you have not yet registered with) will show. Select the one you want to register with and enter the base PIN (default: 0000).

If registered successfully, the screen prompts “Handset Subscribed” and “Base NO. (last 4 characters of connected Base’s MAC address).”

The idle screen will show the internal device number of the phone on the base station. In the example shown here the CP935W is registered as "Handset 4" on the base station. The next registered DECT handset/phone will be assigned as Handset 5.

If the registration fails it may be due to an incorrect base PIN (check with your system administrator for the correct one), the base station is out of range (move closer to it), or the base station is not in registration mode (see above.)

Registering with Another Base Station

After an initial registration to a base station, the easy method is no longer applicable. But you can use the basic settings menu to register to another base station. When you do so the current registration is discarded.

Remember to make sure the other base station is in registration mode.

To register the handset to a different base station:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select  Basic>Registration>Register.

  • A list of available base stations will be shown. Select the one you want to register to and enter the base station's PIN (the default PIN is 0000).

  • Press Done to complete the registration.

If registered successfully, the screen prompts “Handset Subscribed” and “Base NO. (last 4 characters of connected Base’s MAC address).”  The idle screen will show the new internal device number of the handset on the base station.

Deregistering the Phone

There may be occasions, such as if you are replacing the base station, when you need to deregister the phone.

You can use any registered handset/phone to deregister any of the other handsets/phones on the base station.

To deregister the handset:

  • Access the Control Center by swiping down from the top of the screen or by tapping    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Basic>Registraton>Delete and enter the base PIN (default: 0000).

  • The screen displays the handsets/phones that are registered to the base station. The name of the phone/handset you are using is highlighted and followed by a left arrow.

  • Select the desired phone/handset, and tap OK.

  • Confirm the action by tapping Yes.

You can also deregister the phone via the web user interface at the path: Status>Handset&VoIP>Delete Handset.

Renaming the Phone

The phone will be named automatically if successfully registered to the base station but you can rename it to personalize it.

To rename the phone:

  • Tap    on the bottom of the idle screen.

  • Select Basic>Phone Name.

  • Edit the name in the Phone Name field and tap  .

The handset name is also configurable via the web user interface at the path Account>Handset Name.

Locating Phones/Handsets and Testing Registration

If you are using a single-cell base station (W70B) you can find all handsets/phones registered to it or locate a misplaced handset/phone by paging it from the base station.

To locate a handset:

  • Press   on the base station.

  • All the idle phones/handsets that are registered with the base station will ring (get paged) simultaneously and display the IP address of the base station on their screens.

  • Tap   , OK, or  End Call on any phone/handset or press   again on the base station to stop the ringing.

You can also locate handsets via the web user interface at the path Status>Handset&VoIP>Paging Status.
