Yealink SIP-T48U –Using Your Phone as an Intercom

Intercom is a useful feature in an office environment to quickly connect with a specific contact or an operator. The recipient's phone will answer the call automatically if the recipient is not already on another call.

Intercom functionality is also possible by using Telebroad's intercom dial code.

Configuring Outgoing Intercom Calls

To configure an intercom key via phone user interface:

  • Tap DSS Key.

  • Tap the desired line key.

  • Tap the gray box of the Type field, and then select Intercom from the pull-down list.

  • Tap the gray box of the Account ID field, and then select the desired line from the pull-down list.

  • (Optional.) Enter the string that will appear on the touch screen in the Label field.

  • Enter the target extension number in the Value field.

  • Tap the Save soft key to accept the change or to cancel.

Intercom key is configurable via web user interface at the path DSSKey>Line Key.

Configuring Incoming Intercom Calls

The T48 phone supports automatic incoming intercom call answering by default. The phone automatically plays a warning tone when it receives an incoming intercom call.

You can enable the phone to mute the microphone when it automatically answers an incoming intercom call. You can also enable the phone to automatically answer an incoming intercom call while there is already an active call on the phone. The active call is then placed on hold.

To configure intercom features via phone user interface:

  • Tap >Features>Intercom.

  • Make the desired changes.

  • Tap the Save soft key to accept the change or  to cancel.

These specific parameters are also configurable via web user interface at the path Features->Intercom.

Accept Intercom

You can enable or disable the phone to automatically answer an incoming intercom call. If  Accept Intercom is enabled, the phone will automatically answer an incoming intercom call. Accept Intercom is enabled by default.

If  Accept Intercom is disabled, the phone will reject incoming intercom calls and send a busy message to the caller.

Your phone system administrator can set a period of delay time before the phone automatically answers intercom calls.

Intercom Mute

You can mute or unmute the phone’s microphone for intercom calls automatically. If Intercom Mute is enabled, the microphone will be muted for intercom calls. If Intercom Mute is disabled, the microphone will work for intercom calls. Intercom Mute is disabled by default.

Intercom Tone

You can enable or disable the phone to play a warning tone when receiving an intercom call. If Intercom Tone is enabled, the phone will play a warning tone before answering the intercom call. Intercom Tone is enabled by default.

If Intercom Tone is disabled, the phone will automatically answer the intercom call without warning.

Intercom Barge

You can enable or disable the phone to automatically answer an incoming intercom call while there is already an active call on the phone. If Intercom Barge is enabled, the phone will automatically answer the intercom call and place the active call on hold. Intercom Barge is disabled by default.

If Intercom Barge is disabled, the phone will handle an incoming intercom call like a waiting call.

To enable receiving new incoming call during an active call, the call waiting feature must be enabled on the phone in advance. Speak to your phone system administrator about this.

Placing an Intercom Call

To place an intercom call when the target phone is idle:

  • Tap the intercom key, you configured above, when the phone is idle.

The called destination phone plays a warning tone and automatically answers the call in the speakerphone mode by default.

  • To end the intercom call, tap the intercom key again or the EndCall soft key.
