How Does the Windows Firewall Affect the TeleConsole?
The TeleConsole SIP library needs to be granted access through the firewall or the TeleConsole may not function properly and you may not be able to make or receive calls.
You will be asked to provide firewall access after you install the TeleConsole and run it for the first time (see more information here.) If you don't grant this access you will have to configure the firewall manually as described next.
Access and Configuration
The steps outlined here are for the Windows 10/11 native Defender firewall. They apply to other VoIP apps you may be using.
If you are using a 3rd party firewall you will need to locate the TeleConsole app and adjust the appropriate settings.
To allow the TeleConsole access through the Windows 10/11 Defender firewall:
- Access the Windows settings ( ) from the Start Menu.
- Select the Update & Security settings (on Windows 11 select Privacy & security.)
- Select the Windows Security category (on Windows 11 you have to click the Open Windows Security button.)
- Select the Firewall and network protection option.
- Click Allow an app through firewall.

- A window with a list of allowed apps and features will open. Click Change settings and provide your admin password when prompted for authentication.
- Scroll down to find and select "teleconsole.exe" (see below how to add it if you can't find it.)
- Check the Private network box. A private network is a network in your home or office that you know and trust.
If you intend to use the TeleConsole on public networks, check the Public networks box. However keep in mind that public networks (in airports, coffee shops, and other public areas) are not as safe as private ones!
If you are not sure about this, it is better to leave the Public box unchecked. You can always come back and change it later when it is really affecting the functionality of the TeleConsole.
- Click OK to approve the changes.
- On some older Windows 10 configurations you may not be able to check the Public/Private boxes directly.
If this is the case select the desired app, click Details..., and click Network types.... Check the Private/Public boxes in the Network types window and click OK to approve your network types selection. Click OK again to finish editing the app's details.
Adding a New App to the List of Allowed Apps and Features
If you can't find the TeleConsole or your desired app in the list of allowed apps and features do this:
- Click the Allow another app... button.
- Select your desired app in the list of Apps:.
If you don't see your app here, click Browse... and locate the executable file (.exe extension) of the app on your device. This will be in the Program Files folder. For the Teleonsole, the relevant path is Program Folder>Teleconsole. If you are trying to add an older app it should be located in the Program Files (x86) folder.
- Click Network tyes... and select Private or Public or both.
- Click Add to finish adding the app.
