Yealink DECT W56P Restarting, Updating Firmware, Factory Reset

If your W56H handset or the base station it is registered with are malfunctioning or require updates you or your phone system administrator may want to do one of the following:

Restarting: This will bring the base station back to its last configured state. You can also restart a handset by turning it off and on.

Updating firmware: Firmware is the software that loads when the phone and base station are started and controls its functionality. Updating it to a newer version, when one is released, may resolve or improve phone performance issues.

Factory reset: This erases the current configuration and applies the original configuration the phone was shipped with from the factory. You can reset the base station or each individual handset.

Restarting

Handset

If you need to restart a handset simply long-press the on-hook/power key ( ) to turn it off. Press the key again or place the handset in the charger cradle to turn the handset back on.

Base Station

Restarting the base station is usually a safe and easy method to resolve functionality issues. However, you may want to consult your phone system administrator first to make sure the issues are not related to network problems or other external causes.

Also, since restarting the base station will cause any active or holding calls to be disconnected, you should alert any users connected to the base station before performing the reset. An easy way to do so is with the handset intercom feature.

To restart the base station via the handset:

  • Press    to enter the main menu.

  • Select Settings>System Settings>Base Restart.

  • Enter the system PIN (default: 0000) and press the Done soft key.

The registration LED and network status LED go out simultaneously. When the base station restarts successfully the LED indicators will illuminate solid green again.

You can also restart the base via the web user interface at the path Settings>Upgrade.

Firmware Upgrade

You can update the firmware on either the base or the handset. Firmware files can be downloaded from the Yealink support portal (for additional base station firmware files see this link.) The file should be stored on a computer, mobile device, or network location that can be accessed by the web interface.

You can check the current firmware installed on the base or a handset to see if an update is indeed required.

If you are using a multi-cell base station (Yealink W80 or W90) with your w56H handset refer to this article for instructions on how to perform a firmware upgrade.

To check the base station or handset firmware via the handset:

  • Press    to enter the main menu.

  • Select Status>Base for the base station's details or Status>Handset for the handset's details.

  • The screen displays the status of the base station or handset including the firmware version and additional network information (You can press    or    to scroll through the list and view the additional details.)

You may need to provide some of this additional information, besides the firmware version, to your phone system administrator for phone support or maintenance.

Upgrading the base station or handset firmware via the web user interface:

  • Access the web user interface as explained here.

  • Click on Settings>Upgrade.

  • If updating the base station firmware:

    • Click Upgrade next to the Select and Upgrade Firmware field.

    • A prompt will say “Firmware of the SIP DECT phone will be updated. It will take 5 minutes to complete. Please don't power off!”.

  • If updating the handset firmware:

    • Click Browse next to the Select and Upgrade Handset Firmware field to locate the required firmware file on your local system.

    • Click Upgrade next to the Select and Upgrade Handset Firmware field.

    • A prompt will say “Handset Firmware of the SIP DECT phone will be updated. It will take 5 minutes to complete. Please don't power off!”.

Click OK to confirm the upgrade.

The upgrading process will take a few minutes. The power indicator LED on the base station flashes during the firmware upgrading process.

Once the base station firmware has been successfully upgraded it will reboot automatically. The handset will perform an auto registration to the base station.

Factory Reset

It is advisable you contact us  (if you have an account with us) or your phone system administrator before attempting a factory reset to see if the issues with your phone may be resolved without it and to ensure your phone can be properly provisioned and configured if a reset is indeed required.
