Before call parking can be used on your phone, some system extensions need to be assigned as parking slots. This is handled by an administrator in the Admin Center as explained here.
Call Parking Usage
You can use call parking to place a call on hold, and then retrieve it from another office location.
Call parking is also useful when a call has to be transferred to a user who is not at his desk. A receptionist can accept the call, park it, and use the office overhead paging system to inform the user about the extension where the call is waiting for him. The user can then use any nearby phone to retrieve it.
If a parked call is not retrieved within a certain time period it will be returned to the phone line that parked it.
Parking or Retrieving a Call in Transfer Mode
You can park a call to the shared parking lot using a blind transfer. Verify with your phone system administrator that this mode is enabled on your phone.
To do so, during a call, select Park (you may need to select (More) > Park).
The call will be transferred to the shared parking lot and the system will provide a retrieval code (the number of the parking slot) if the call is parked successfully.
Essentially, the system automatically picks an available parking slot extension and parks your call there.
You can retrieve a parked call in transfer mode from any phone in the same network!
To retrieve a call from any phone on the same network:
- Pick up the handset, press , or select the line key.
- Do one of the following:
- Dial the parking slot extension (the retrieval code) provided by the system when you parked the call.
- Select Retrieve (you may need to select (More) > Retrieve) and, if requested, enter the retrieval code provided when you parked the call.
- Dial the parking slot extension (the retrieval code) provided by the system when you parked the call.
Parking a Call with a DSS Key
Configuring a DSS Park and Retrieve Key
For fast parking access, you can set up a DSS Park key with a parking slot extension.
To configure a DSS park key:
- From the idle screen select Menu and navigate to Features > Dsskey.
- Select the desired line key.
- Select Key Event from the Type field.
- Select Call Park from the Key Type field.
- (optional) Select the desired line from the Account ID field.
- (optional) Enter the string that will appear on the phone screen in the Label field.
- Enter the parking slot extension number you want to park the call to in the Value field.
- Select Save.
Using the DSS Park Key
During a call, select the DSS Call Park key to park the call to the configured parking slot extension.
If a call is already parked on the configured parking slot you will hear a busy tone or a system message saying the parking attempt failed and the DSS key icon will indicate a "Park failed" state (see next). If this happens, you can try to park the call using the Transfer Mode.
To retrieve the call dial the parking slot extension it was parked on. You can also select Retrieve on any phone on the same local network (you may need to select (More) > Retrieve) and, if requested, enter the retrieval code provided when you parked the call.
State Indicator of the Park/Retrieve key
After you have configured a DSS call park key its icon will provide state indicators of the call park/retrieve status as follows:
